EFFECT OF GENDER ON THE ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORAL HABITS TOWARDS SPORT OF PEOPLE LIVING IN RURAL AREAS

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of gender on the attitudes and behavioral habits towards sport of people living in rural areas. Methodologically it´s been followed an ex post facto design with a correlational analysis of variables from data sampled under natural conditions. Three instruments were used for data collection: questionnaire, interviews and field diaries. The sample to which we applied the questionnaire was distributed to 260 people nationwide; The questionnaire was applied by professional interviewers and data were validated through triangulation, saturation and negotiation thereof. The results showed that in rural areas the gender is not a determining factor in sports participation, but is deterministic in the type of activities that they want to practice and why this practice is performed.
