ABSTRACT

 

The influence of aerobic training on spirometric parameters has focused on the effect of these training methods mainly in subjects with disease or after inspiratory resistive training, but no studies have been conducted on a population of trained subjects. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the effect on spirometric parameters of three different training programs conducted for 4 weeks, in a population of trained athletes. We analyzed 30 athletes (38.7±9.8 years, 174.7±6.5 cm, 72.0±9.8 kg) allocated into 3 groups of 10 subjects each one. Each group carried out 4 weeks of training with 3 different periodization. One group performed a training program with the objective of development of aerobic endurance with a load distribution increasing in intensity of aerobic work (CRE), a second group performed a training program with the objective of development of aerobic endurance with a distribution of loads constant in intensity of aerobic work (CTE) and the third group had free training program (LIB). Before and after 4 weeks training, the subjects performed a forced spirometry. The results show a significant (p <0.05) decrease of FEF25-75% in the CTE group. These results show spirometric parameters are little influenced by 4-week training to improve aerobic endurance in trained athletes.
